Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Trainee Asphalt Roller Operator to join our team. No prior roller experience is required—we are fully prepared to train the right individual who has a strong work ethic and a desire to learn a valuable skilled trade. This position involves learning to operate asphalt compaction equipment while supporting the paving crew with regular ground labour tasks. We’re seeking someone who’s a team player and willing to pitch in wherever needed on the job site.
Duties
- Learn to operate asphalt rollers safely to achieve required compaction specifications
- Operate a plate compactor and hand tamper for tight spaces, joints, and edges
- Perform daily equipment inspections, greasing, and basic maintenance
- Assist the paving crew with ground labour, raking, shovelling, and site cleanup
- Monitor mat temperature and follow the rolling pattern directed by the foreman
- Adhere to all company safety protocols and site-specific safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Represent the company professionally on-site and with the public
Skills
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation to get to yard
- Strong willingness to learn heavy equipment operation and take direction
- Physically fit and eager to perform consistent labour tasks alongside operating duties
- Ability to safely handle and operate vibratory plate compactors and hand tamps
- Ability to work outdoors in hot, dusty, and varying weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and a team-oriented mindset
- Previous experience in construction, paving, or landscaping is considered an asset
