About WETS
WETS We Teach Swimming is a skill-building swim academy founded in 1996, with a national certification program and licensing model for swim instructors. We offer progressive swim lessons focused on skill-building and water safety for students ages 3 and up, delivered at WETS Academy locations in hotel and private pool facilities across Canada.
Our WETS Progressive Swim Program allows students to begin at any stage of development and enroll in sessions year-round. Using our proven Skill-Building Method©, we help every student develop their swimming capabilities one skill at a time — with our Swim Skill Token System giving families a tangible, visible way to measure progress.
Since 1996, WETS has helped over 25,000 students become confident, proficient swimmers, backed by more than 100,000 lessons taught and hundreds of five-star reviews from families across Canada.
Through WETS Pro, our certification and licensing platform, we train and certify aspiring, new, and experienced swim instructors to deliver our program as independent contractors — with full access to our curriculum, registration system, and instructor support.
About the Opportunity
If you’re a certified swim instructor who loves the water and cares about technique and student progress — but feels limited by low wages, crowded public pools, or inflexible employment models — this opportunity may be the right fit.
WETS is seeking independent contractors to provide swim instruction in the Kelowna and West Kelowna area. This is a professional, part-time contract opportunity designed for instructors who want scheduling flexibility, a focused teaching environment, and compensation that reflects their skills.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an independent instructor working with WETS, you will:
- Provide swim instruction to students of varying ages and abilities in a focused, small-group teaching environment
- Support swimmers through structured skill development stages using the WETS Progressive Swim Program
- Adapt lessons to suit individual learning styles and goals
- Foster a safe, confidence-building environment where students can focus on measurable skill progression
- Communicate with families regarding swimmer progress
- Maintain lesson records for invoicing and student safety documentation
Qualifications
- Current Swim Instructor Certification (WETS, Swim for Life, YMCA, or equivalent)
- Bronze Cross certification or higher
- Previous experience teaching swim lessons
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with swimmers and families
- Reliable, adaptable, and student-focused approach to instruction
- Strong understanding of water safety and skill progression
Compensation & Structure
- $20.00–$30.00/hr, depending on experience and service arrangements
- Compensation is provided on a per-service basis
- Payment is issued upon submission of invoices
What Sets WETS Apart
- Proven methodology: Over 25,000 students served and 100,000+ lessons taught since 1996 — with waitlists that reflect real community demand
- Focused teaching environment: Program design emphasizes small group sizes to support focused, individualized instruction, delivered in hotel and private pool settings — not crowded public facilities
- WETS Certified Swim Instructor designation: A recognized, nationally supported credential through WETS Pro
- Full program support: Access to the WETS Progressive Swim Program curriculum, the WETS-In-A-Box toolkit, centralized registration, and ongoing professional development — no overhead on your end
- Scheduling that works for you: Instructors set their availability at the start of each lesson block and commit to that schedule for the duration of the session — providing consistency for families and predictability for you
Contractor Relationship
This is an independent contractor opportunity, not employment.
- Contractors may teach for other organizations or clients outside of WETS. The WETS methodology is proprietary and applies only to instruction delivered under the WETS program.
- Instructors maintain control over how services are delivered, within WETS program standards
- You may accept or decline opportunities based on your availability
- Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, certifications, and any applicable insurance
Our Commitment to Inclusion
WETS is committed to creating an inclusive and respectful environment. We welcome instructors from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we strive to support both instructors and swimmers in feeling confident and capable.
