Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Pipe Layer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing various tasks to aid daily operations at a construction site. Their duties include assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue.
This role involves working on construction sites, utilizing machinery to perform tasks. The Pipe Layer will play a crucial role in ensuring projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- The duties and responsibilities of a Pipe Layer are all geared toward maintaining a clean, safe and efficient construction site while also supporting the overall project. The list of duties and responsibilities for a Pipe Layer on any given day may include the following:
- Following instructions from supervisors and implementing construction plans.
- Their main focus is on the physical labor involved in laying pipes into the ground. Pipelayers work in trenches or ditches, using heavy equipment to excavate the ground and create pathways for the pipes. They position and align the pipes correctly, ensuring proper slope, grade, and connection.
- Assisting skilled tradespeople in their duties.
Requirements
- Technical knowledge: Pipelayers need to understand how pipeline components fit together, how to use engineering drawings, and how to maintain and repair heavy machinery.
- Physical strength: Pipelayers need to be physically fit to perform manual labor and operate heavy machinery. They often handle loads of up to 100 lbs and spend more than a third of their time bending or twisting their bodies.
- Math skills: Pipelayers need to be able to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide to take accurate measurements and ensure pipes fit properly.
- Communication skills: Pipelayers need to be able to communicate clearly and accurately, both written and verbally. They also need to be able to work well in a team environment and collaborate with others.
- Problem-solving skills: Pipelayers need to be able to assess situations and determine the best way to resolve issues.
- Blueprint reading: Pipelayers need to be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans.
- Driving skills: Pipelayers may need to drive construction equipment or vehicles, so they need a valid driver’s license and basic driving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices.
- Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to communicate effectively on-site.
