Facility & Equipment Maintenance Lead

Pay: $30–$36/hr (based on experience)

Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, dependable individual to lead maintenance operations across our woodshop, sawmill, and facility. This role is responsible for keeping equipment, buildings, and systems operating safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis.
This position goes beyond routine maintenance. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and capable of building simple systems to track maintenance, prevent downtime, and improve operational reliability. You will serve as the primary point of contact for all maintenance-related needs throughout the facility.
Key ResponsibilitiesFacility & Equipment Maintenance
- Operate and maintain wood boiler systems, including daily loading, monitoring, cleaning, and troubleshooting
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on facility systems, woodworking machinery, and sawmill equipment
- Assist with kiln upkeep and maintenance, including monitoring systems and performing routine service tasks
- Identify and resolve maintenance issues before they become larger operational problems
- Assist with installation, setup, and testing of new machinery and equipment
- Ensure all machinery guards and safety systems are functioning properly
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and maintenance emergencies
- Maintain clean, organized maintenance areas, tools, and shop spaces
Safety & Compliance
- Follow and promote a strong safety-first culture throughout the facility
- Conduct routine safety inspections on equipment, tools, and work areas
- Properly use and maintain PPE in accordance with OSHA and company standards
- Perform lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance and repair work when required
Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance
- Perform grounds maintenance, including snow plowing, sanding, and seasonal property upkeep
- Safely operate forklifts, loaders, tractors, and other equipment as needed
Systems, Documentation & Budgeting
- Maintain logs for boiler operation and equipment maintenance
- Track repairs, recurring issues, and preventative maintenance schedules
- Build and maintain simple systems for organizing maintenance tasks and documentation
- Continuously improve maintenance processes for efficiency and reliability
- Maintain fiscal responsibility through budget awareness, cost-conscious purchasing, and adherence to monthly maintenance budgets
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Experience with boilers or heating systems
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable performing physical work indoors and outdoors year-round
Preferred Experience
- Experience with kiln systems maintenance or lumber drying environments
- Experience with woodworking machinery or sawmill equipment
- Background in maintenance, manufacturing, or mechanical work
Schedule
Flexible scheduling based on workload and operational needs. Candidates must be available for occasional on-call responsibilities, including snow plowing, boiler operation, or emergency maintenance situations.

This is a critical role focused on maintaining safe, reliable operations while building systems and processes that improve long-term maintenance efficiency across the facility.
Pay: $30.00 – $36.00 per hour
