Head of School / Executive Lead Guide Jobs in Spicewood, TX at Lake Travis Christian Academy: An Acton Academy
Lake Travis Christian Academy is a growing, faith-based private school in the Lake Travis / Spicewood area serving students ages 4–18. We’re part of the Acton Academy network — a learner-driven model where students (heroes) own their education through Socratic discussion, real-world quests, mastery-based badge progression, and peer-driven accountability. Our mixed-age studios replace traditional classrooms, and our guides replace traditional teachers; asking questions instead of giving answers, designing challenges instead of delivering lectures, and trusting young people to lead their own learning.
We’re on a new campus, growing toward 150 students, and building out a high school Launch Pad program. We need a Head of School who has lived this kind of environment, someone who understands mixed-age dynamics, learner-driven culture, and the discipline it takes to protect hero agency while holding high standards.
This role partners directly with the school’s owners to lead the community together.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily school operations across three mixed-age studios (early childhood, elementary, and middle school)
- Partner with school owners on parent communication, campus tours, and enrollment strategy
- Coach and develop a team of Socratic guides, ensuring they ask great questions, design compelling challenges, and resist the urge to teach
- Share responsibility for admissions, re-enrollment, and family onboarding alongside the ownership team
- Coordinate parent outreach and serve as a key point of contact for families
- Manage student accountability systems (honor code, studio contracts, peer governance, Recommitment Contracts)
- Facilitate or oversee Socratic launches, Town Halls, and exhibitions of learning
- Lead onboarding and staff development
- Set and protect campus culture rooted in integrity, hard work, and faith
- Drive strategic growth including high school program development
- Maintain accreditation standards and Acton network affiliation
Requirements (Must-Haves)
- Experience leading or working in a mixed-age, learner-driven environment (Acton, Montessori, microschool, or similar)
- 3+ years of school leadership experience (Head of School, Assistant Head, Lead Guide, Principal, or equivalent)
- You understand the difference between guiding and teaching and you’re committed to staying on the right side of that line
- Strong organizational and operational skills; you can run a campus, not just inspire one
- Excellent written and verbal communication with parents, staff, and students
- Comfortable leading from a faith-based perspective
- Collaborative mindset, you work well alongside guides and owners, not just independently
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)
- Direct experience with the Acton Academy model and Hero’s Journey framework
- Background in Socratic facilitation and quest-based learning design
- Experience managing admissions and enrollment growth
- Familiarity with student-drafted contracts, peer accountability, and studio governance systems
