Job Summary

Position will manage Core Research Services Facilities at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) which currently include:

Flow cytometry, Histology and Imaging, and Analytical core facilities, with emerging core services yet to be established. Major responsibilities include: managing all core facility staff and their appointments; evaluating facility performance and service levels; evaluating and optimizing work flow and service levels; developing and establishing policies, procedures and administrative systems in order to manage resources and reach desired service levels;

developing business plans for each core to cover projected expenses and sustain service levels; marketing facility services to regional scientific community; planning and managing logistical requirements;

/renewal; and supporting the development of new core services.

Organizational Status This position reports to the Director of Research Services for BCCHR. The Core Facilities Manager also works under the general direction of the Associate Director of Foundational Sciences. This position will also support the Core Facilities Committee and work closely with affiliated Research Theme and administration as needed.

Work Performed Engage and maintain

positive working

relationship with users of the core facility and members of the BCCHR research community. Including organizing core services training and initiatives for users.

Manage & supervise core facility staff/technicians and advises core facilities appointments, including ensuring service coverage to ensure continuous operation.

Manage operating budgets for core facilities including the development of financial projections and business cases for each facility.

Evaluate work flow and service levels and develop policies and procedures to optimize work flow and deliver high quality service.

Generate reporting metrics on facility deliverables and service levels to advise the Associate Director, and Scientific Leads, and Core Facilities Committee. Lead the process to meet annual reporting requirements.

Analyze facility

and new emerging technologies and work with the Associate Director, and Core Facilities Committee to ensure

advancement

/relevance of service cores. Examples include advise on and facilitate with

new equipment

purchases and providing support on grant application as needed.

Develop market strategy to bring in outside business to support facilities, and if it is determined as being appropriate, deliver presentations/promotional material to the regional scientific community to meet this need.

Develop and maintain websites and promotional/service documents for each facility.

Work with the Associate Director, Scientific Leads, and facility staff to meet laboratory and work safety requirements for work sites.

Any other tasks as required

Consequences of Error/Judgment This position is responsible for facilities and staff that handle/process limited and irreplaceable samples and may have access to confidential data.
