The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Process Safety & Risk Management, the Team Leader will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing process safety procedures, tools, programs, training, and work processes for our Natural Gas pipelines. This position will influence and identify opportunities for improvement in the process safety program for the organization. The role is located in Calgary, AB.

What you’ll do

Lead a team of engineers responsible for process safety and risk management programs and processes (e.g., Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Operational Readiness, Risk & Barrier Management, Competency and Training, and Metrics;

Support establishing team goals, objectives, and strategies; optimize work practices and processes; perform program assessments and provide feedback to enhance learning and ensure compliance with standards and processes;

Lead and coordinate PHA program activities. Track, understand and support mitigation of action items from PHAs;

Monitor and develop key performance indicators (most importantly, leading indicators) to track process safety progress;

Analyze trends on program performance metrics and make recommendations toleadershipon corrective actions;

Provide oversight and conduct self-assessments for process safety programs.

Accountable for tracking, understanding, and seeking resolution for corrective actions from program self-assessments;

Understand process safety implications of incidents and provide guidance to stakeholders and staff for proper classification and improvements;

Accountable for operational risk register development and coordination for the organization;

Coordinate process safety knowledge sharing and best practices across Natural Gas pipelines and promote efficiencies where appropriate;

Communicate external process safety events and share best practices identified within the company;

Contribute to the continual improvement of the company’s process safety tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline

Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good-standing

10+ years of applicable industry experience required, preferably in gas processing, chemical or petrochemical facility

Experience leading and developing high-performing teams

Strongcommunicationand stakeholder management skills and ability to present to executive audience

Understands and expresses complex and sensitive concepts clearly, correctly and in a well-organized form

Able to process information quickly and make timely, fact-based decisions

Able to effectively communicate across all cultural and company boundaries

Extensive knowledge and proven competency with PHA, HAZOP, MOC, PSSR, and Risk Management processes
