Responsibilities
- Measure clients accurately to determine necessary alterations and ensure proper garment fit
- Use sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques to modify clothing items with precision
- Perform garment construction tasks such as hemming, taking in or letting out seams, and resizing
- Communicate clearly with customers to understand their needs and provide expert advice on alterations
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure all tools and equipment are in excellent condition
- Follow safety procedures when operating sewing machines and other equipment
- Complete basic math calculations for measurements, fabric adjustments, and pricing estimates
Skills
- Proven experience in fashion retail or tailoring environments with strong garment alteration skills
- Proficiency in operating sewing machines and familiarity with various sewing techniques
- Knowledge of garment construction, fabric types, and sewing patterns
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to listen carefully and communicate effectively
- Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality finishing touches on every garment
- Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for measurements and adjustments
- Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude
