Structural / Building Inspector
Specialty Engineering Consultants is a well-respected, busy engineering firm located in Boynton Beach, Florida, seeking an experienced Structural / Building Inspector to join our team.
Position Summary
The Inspector performs field inspections for commercial and residential construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans, and engineering requirements. This position is primarily field-based and requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections as required by the daily schedule, including:
- Post-tension construction
- Tunnel form construction
- Structural steel construction
- Red iron connections and welding
- Window and door attachments
- Shoring and reshoring systems
- Inspect commercial and residential structures for compliance with current Florida Building Codes and approved plans.
- Submit accurate and timely inspection reports.
- Maintain detailed project documentation and records.
- Interpret building plans, specifications, drawings, and engineering documents.
- Identify construction deficiencies, code violations, and discrepancies.
- Maintain knowledge of current building codes and industry standards.
- Maintain professional licensing through continuing education.
- Assist with training and mentoring new inspectors as needed.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with contractors, property owners, government officials, and project stakeholders.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Florida DBPR Building Inspector License required (preferred if hiring flexibility is desired).
- Thorough knowledge of Florida Building Codes.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to identify code violations and construction deficiencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
