The Storekeeper I performs material/product handling functions at the City of Vancouver’s warehouse facilities including: receiving, sorting, storing, counting and issuing general stores material/products, automotive parts and equipment. The Storekeeper I is accountable for accurate recordkeeping regarding all material movement to ensure adequate stock levels and is responsible for precise recordkeeping to ensure proper control over material movement and effective utilisation of available storage space.

The Storekeeper I works collaboratively with warehouse employees and frequently interacts with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Material/Product Handing and Recordkeeping

Receives material/products, automotive parts and equipment and confirms received goods to orders
Inspects material/products, automotive parts and equipment for quality and quantity
Stores material/products, automotive parts and equipment in order to minimise the occurrence of risks and to prevent losses due to improper storage handling
Issues material/products, automotive parts and equipment according to the completed and approved order
Maintains accurate recordkeeping and reporting of complex records for all inventory movement of material/products, automotive parts, and equipment in Materials Management System (SAP, M5, CCG, Excel, or other System)
Regularly reviews records documenting the inventory movement, identifies errors in the data and escalates the errors to Supervisor to resolve
Reviews and matches packing slips, invoices and Purchase Orders in Materials Management System (SAP, M5, CCG, Excel, or other System); compares details with the associated Purchase Order in Materials Management System (SAP, M5, CCG, Excel, or other System); investigates and resolves all routine discrepancies and escalates all challenging and unusual inconsistencies
Prepares and obtains the appropriate authorization to order recurrent material
Works with customer to identify material needs, and escalates any concerns around inventory availability of stock and non-recurrent stock
Counts and records inventory totals according to set schedule and set parameters and reports and escalates any discrepancies between inventory count and the data recorded in the system or historic records
Proposes effective storekeeping and recordkeeping methods – allocates proper bins, shelves, and improved recordkeeping systems
Sorts, counts, and records inventory that is stored outside of the main warehouse (such as, in the yard) to ensure proper controls over material and space management
Makes non-routine transportation arrangements for supplies with shipping representatives and prepares fairly complex shipping orders
Performs related work as required

Warehouse Operations

Adheres to the necessary safety methods and procedures, departmental processes, and corporate policies
Maintains warehouse cleanliness and organization
Operates motorized material/product handling equipment (vehicles, forklifts and stock pickers)
Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned

The successful candidate must be prepared to work at various warehouse locations within the City of Vancouver, and will be required to work non-standard hours, as operationally required. The work location and schedule may be subject to change due to facility requirements and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Qualifications

Education, and Experience:

Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by the completion of course work in Inventory/Supply Chain Management
Related warehouse experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the principles and practices of warehouse operations and materials movement
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts
Ability to communicate effectively in individual or group settings
Ability to work in high volume environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks and changing priorities with tight time frames
Ability to occasionally work at any one of the Warehouse locations within the City of Vancouver
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Ability to read, write, count, and speak English
Sufficient physical strength and agility to handle and lift heavy items
Ability to perform physical work in all weather conditions
Knowledge of computer programs including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, scheduling programs, and other City of Vancouver software applications an asset
Forklift Operator Certificate (in good standing) preferred
Ability to operate a vehicle, forklift, and order picker preferred
Ability to work at heights is an asset
