Position: Storefront Employment Advisor

Location: Grande Cache Community Learning and Employment Resource Centre (CLERC)

Reports To: CLERC Supervisor

Hours: Full-Time (35 hours/week)

Position Summary

The Storefront Employment Advisor serves as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and community partners at the Grande Cache Community Learning and Employment Resource Centre (CLERC). This role is central to creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment while providing high-quality employment, learning, and career development services.

As a key member of the team, the Advisor supports individuals in accessing employment opportunities, building job readiness skills, and navigating education and training pathways. This position also plays an important role in community engagement, program development, and maintaining strong relationships with local employers and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Office Administration & Operations

– Welcome and support all clients, visitors, staff, and volunteers, ensuring a positive and professional first impression

– Provide exceptional customer service, including assistance with job searches, online applications, labour market information, and access to resources (e.g., ALIS, post-secondary information)

– Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HALS policies and procedures

– Manage front desk operations including answering phones, directing inquiries, and supporting general office functions

– Maintain and update job boards, social media platforms, and weekly job alerts

– Oversee client file management using internal systems and ensure accurate documentation of services

– Maintain computer workstations and ensure client access to digital tools and resources

– Ensure the office environment is clean, organized, and well-stocked

– Support reporting requirements, including monthly and quarterly program reports

2. Client Engagement & Employment Support

– Provide one-on-one support to clients, including resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and job search strategies

– Assist with online applications and referrals to employment opportunities

– Support clients in completing Government of Alberta forms and accessing services

– Encourage and motivate clients using a strengths-based, client-centered approach

– Guide individuals in identifying and accessing education, training, and career pathways

– Organize facilitation of workshops and courses for participants

3. Program Development & Delivery

– Identify emerging community needs and contribute to the development of relevant programs and services

– Gather and incorporate client feedback to continuously improve service delivery

– Collaborate with the CLERC and HALS team to plan, deliver, and evaluate workshops, programs, and special events

4. Community Outreach & Partnerships

– Promote CLERC services through community engagement, marketing, and outreach activities

– Build and maintain relationships with local employers, agencies, and stakeholders

– Represent CLERC at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities

– Support coordination of events such as job fairs, workshops, and literacy initiatives

– Work collaboratively to reduce duplication of services and strengthen community capacity

5. Professional Development

– Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development opportunities

– Stay informed on labour market trends, employment resources, and best practices

Qualifications & Experience

– Diploma or degree in Human Services, Social Work, Adult Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience

– Minimum of 2 years’ experience in employment services, community support, or a related field

– Strong knowledge of community resources and labour market trends

– Core Competencies

– Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills

– Strong written and verbal communication abilities

– High level of digital literacy (Microsoft Office, Excel, Canva, Zoom/Teams, Apple systems)

– Experience in facilitation, public speaking, and marketing

– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

– Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

– Commitment to a strengths-based, client-centered approach

– High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical practice

– Cultural awareness and sensitivity, particularly Indigenous cultural awareness

– Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

– Additional Requirements

– Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle

– Flexibility to work occasional evenings or community events

Pay: $25.00-$27.00 per hour
