JOB DESCRIPTION: Senior Buyer

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Supply Chain Lead
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The Senior Buyer at Mil-Aero Electronics Atlantic is responsible for sourcing and procuring the raw materials, components, and services needed to meet our production schedules and customer commitments. This role is critical to maintaining optimal inventory levels, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality materials that meet both company and industry standards.
As a key link between our suppliers and production teams, the Senior Buyer ensures materials and services are delivered on time, at the right cost, and with the quality our customers expect. We’re seeking a detail-oriented, proactive professional with strong supplier management and negotiation skills – someone ready to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Procurement & Sourcing:
- Source, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on cost, quality, and lead time.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to optimize cost and performance.
- Maintain and manage the Approved Vendor List and monitor supplier performance.
- Ensure all purchasers is compliant with customer and industry quality standards.
- Review and process customer RFQs and supplier quotes.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
2. Inventory Coordination:
- Work closely with Material Handlers and the Shipper/Receiver to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Monitor delivery schedules, work with the team to resolve discrepancies, and follow up on overdue orders from suppliers to prevent delays.
- Support year-end inventory counts and audits.
3. ERP & Data Management:
- Submit requests to the Supply Chain Lead for vendor and item setup when onboarding new suppliers or products.
- Enter and track purchase orders in the ERP system (SAGE experience preferred) in line with production and inventory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of supplier information, lead times, and cost data.
- Provide reporting on cost variances, purchasing history, and vendor performance to Supply Chain Lead.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Coordinate closely with the Production, Quality Assurance, and Sales teams to meet production schedules and customer deadlines
- Support First Articles (FAI) builds with timely procurement.
5. Continuous Improvement:
- Identify cost-savings opportunities and propose process improvements.
- Recommend and support improvements to procurement policies, procedures, and cost-saving initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 1–2 years of purchasing or procurement experience, ideally in manufacturing or industrial settings. Experience with electronics, wiring harnesses, or electro-mechanical components is an asset.
- Familiarity with electronics, wiring harnesses, or electro-mechanical components is an asset
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with ERP systems (experience with systems such as SAGE preferred)
- Knowledge of purchasing best practices, vendor management, and inventory control.
Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Certifications (Preferred): CPIM (Certified in Planning & Inventory Management) or SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional).
Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
- Office-based with regular interaction on the shop floor.
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required during supplier inspections or materials review
- Exposure to manufacturing environments (noise, temperature variations).
- Strict adherence to safety protocols.
