At Jasper Hill, we believe that cheese is a powerful force for good. We are a mission-based company working to preserve Vermont’s working landscape by making and aging world class cheese. The Jasper Hill Family of Businesses includes two farms, a state-of-the-art underground cheese aging facility, sales, marketing, and fulfillment teams, and two creameries.
Position Summary
Tucked away in a series of underground vaults beneath a grassy pasture, the Jasper Hill affinage and production team turns and brushes cheeses, salting them, spiking them, washing them in brine, all to transform them from young, fresh wheels into some of the country’s most celebrated artisan cheeses. We blend centuries-old cheese ripening techniques with the latest scientific understanding in order to coax the highest possible expression from our cheeses. The work is fast-paced and often physical, but allows the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team that’s committed to the highest standards of quality.
Seasonal Opportunity
Late August through late December is the busiest stretch of our year, as we work to get our world class cheese into cheese cases all over the country in time for the holiday season. During this period, we need some extra seasonal support to help our affinage and production team keep pace — if you’re looking for meaningful, hands-on work during this window, we’d love to have you join us in the vaults.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Caring for cheese: receiving, turning, packaging and everything in between
- Maintain a clean working environment; contribute to ongoing cleaning and maintenance schedules
- Follow all food safety protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Detail- and process-oriented
- Able to learn quickly, ask questions, share concerns, seek answers and problem solve
- Computer literate
- Ability to work on your feet for long stretches, and lift 45+ pounds
- Love of artisan cheese a plus!
