Job Description
The Range Safety Officer (RSO) is responsible for firearms instruction and the safety of all Hot Rods & Handguns members and staff. Must have extensive knowledge about the operation of firearms of all types, and be certified in firearms instruction. The primary duty is to organize, conduct and supervise instruction and safe shooting activities and range operations for all shooters at all times. The RSO will ensure that the entire facility and all operations are maintained to the highest standards. The applicant must have a CA DOJ issued COE or be eligible to obtain one. To receive a COE, you must not be prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
Excellent candidates should have:
- Law enforcement, military, security officer, or shooting range experience a must.
- Ability to visualize and auditory to observe and monitor behavior of people and enforce safety rules.
- Self-motivated and exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Must be alert, sharp, decisive, tactful, and good with confrontation
- Complete an annual shooting qualification.
- High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.
- Sufficient knowledge to demonstrate safe firearms and ammunition administration.
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
- A criminal background check will be required. Convictions are not an automatic disqualification from the selection process.
- Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with Hot Rods & Handguns. Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
- No physical limitations relative to heavy physical work with prolonged standing and walking for extended periods of time, walking over rough or uneven surfaces, stretching, bending, and pushing, stooping climbing, crouching, crawling, moving, lifting, and carrying loads weighing between 50-95 pounds.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of safe firearms handling.
- Familiarization with various pistols, rifles, and shotguns.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the daily actions of all shooting lanes to ensure the range is delivering a safe, polite, and professional shooting experience
- Monitor all activity on the shooting lanes at all times
- Assist customers with appropriate lane and target operation
- Promote and smoothly execute instructional programs and shooting events
- Understand and execute emergency response plans when required
- Help monitor range usage
- Ensure safety on the range by observing all users and respectfully, but immediately ceasing any behavior that could be considered unsafe
- Ability to operate, demonstrate and explain merchandise
- Assist Retail operations in maintaining overall inventory control of the weapons, ammunition, safety equipment, and range consumables, and ensure the range is operational
- Stay current on product knowledge, general firearm laws and safety procedures
- Maintain the equipment as needed
- Assist with firearms retail and the customer service of retail sales when needed
