Sandstone is a Community based eating disorder treatment facility located in Calgary. Employing a medical model, clients will receive physician supervised care including the use of medication assisted therapies and 24-hour nursing care. A comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment will be conducted when all clients enter the program.

Position Summary:

The Nurse is responsible for care of patients as part of a

multidisciplinary

team and overseeing follow up of medical care from other shifts while adhering to policies, procedures and the scope of nursing. The Nurse will be expected to establish and maintain open, effective

communication

between facility, clients, physicians, treatment teams and nurses to ensure their effective completion of job duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Delivering client care according to the College of Nurses Standards of Nursing Practice.

Providing ongoing client care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning implementation and evaluation.

Formulating and implementing client care plans.

Safely implementing physician’s orders.

Administering medications to clients.

Maintaining current progress records on clients according to legal and ethical standards.

Orientating, facilitating and reinforcing client’s involvement in treatment.

Decide and initiate on course of action in case of medical emergencies

Providing supportive counselling to clients, families and/or significant others on typical recovery issues.

Maintain a therapeutic environment on the unit conducive to the client learning productive patterns of living.

Providing ongoing health teaching to clients in relation to common health problems and the clients maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Co-ordinate individual client appointments and referrals.

Actively participate with team members in the assessment, planning and evaluation of the client and his care.

Perform other duties as outlined on shift duty lists and as assigned by the Manager of Nursing and Patient Care.

Experience and

Qualifications:

Proof of nursing license and registration in good standing

Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Nurse

Minimum of 1 to 2 years experience with Eating Disorders

Experience working

with adolescents an asset

Current First Aid and CPR Certification

Personal experience in recovery, or formal

education

in addiction or related health field an asset

Excellent interpersonal skills

Strong ethical boundaries
