Department: Fleet and Transportation Maintenance

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Equipment and Maintenance, the incumbent ensures the effective use of resources in the delivery of the equipment maintenance program for all fleet vehicles and specialized equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate and complete the inspection, testing, servicing, maintenance, and repair of all City vehicles and equipment, including light, medium, and heavy-duty, in accordance with prescribed policies, directives, and procedures.

Research and recommend allocation of “pool” vehicles, ensuring repairs and maintenance are completed as required to meet industry, manufacturer, and safety standards.

Oversee the Central Repair and Transit garages operations on a daily basis, including semi-annual inspections of equipment as required by the National Safety Code.

Ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that safety procedures and standards are followed by staff throughout the department.

Assist in providing leadership in all human resource areas, including recruitment and performance management consistent with collective agreements and city policies. Establish work schedules and resolve work-related issues.

Maintain inventories of stock materials and supplies for fleet operations.

Maintain computerized maintenance management system for all fleet vehicle service and maintenance requirements. Recommends the disposal and replacement of vehicles and equipment based on life cycles and Disposal Policies.

Coordinate with other Departments in the preparation of vehicle and equipment specifications, tender documents, and Requests for Proposals.

Provide input into the preparation and monitoring of the department’s Capital and Operational budgets and quarterly reports.

Enter and maintain data in the asset management computerized system.

Assist in the development, reviewing and implementing of departmental policies and procedures. Write reports as required.
