What can I expect to do in this role?

Under the supervision of the Manager, National Policy Office, the Team Lead, National Policy provides functional leadership and guidance to national policy representational staff and provides labour relations representation and advice to the organization on Institute-wide national policy matters and to members on matters of individual and collective represent

Primary responsibilities:

Represent and advise the Institute and support members, groups of members, and stewards in accordance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation, collective agreements, policies, directives and guidelines, and employment benefits plans.

Review, develop, promote and facilitate the implementation of Institute positions with respect to national policy and group wide issues. Develop and implement communications strategies to raise awareness of these issues.

Establish priorities and deadlines and ensure efficient and timely service and quality control.

Provide functional guidance through coaching and direction on more complex assignments, monitoring complex files, and ensuring consistency in approach and adherence to procedures and guidelines. Assign and distribute work to national policy representational staff. Recommend overtime, leave, and similar requests.

Participate in staffing processes and assist the manager in onboarding and training of new staff.

Advise and represent the Institute and members in formal and informal labour relations issues and processes including before third party tribunals and in the context of arbitration, grievances, mediation, facilitation, complaints, and conflict coaching

Review, develop and facilitate the implementation of templates, materials, communications, tools and resources to support labour relations staff and stewards in addressing individual matters pertaining to national policy and group wide issues.
