Kitchen Assistant Jobs in Toronto at Canada’s National Ballet School
Canada’s National Ballet School is currently inviting applications for the full-time permanent position of
Kitchen Assistant.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our Food Services team, with the talent, innovative-
thinking and passion to help NBS continue to share the transformative power of dance with people of all
ages, abilities, and aspirations. As an organization NBS is continually evolving and we are looking for a
professional with unique, new ideas to complement the School’s collaborative work culture.
Under the leadership of the Chef de Cuisine, the Kitchen Assistant will provide assistance to the Chef
and Cooks as required by clearing and cleaning dishes, helping with food preparation and service, and
helping the children and staff as required. The schedule of this role will be Friday to Tuesday 8:00 am –
4:00 pm.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with kitchen production and food preparation activities as they relate to the service of
meals, salads, snacks, catering and responding to special/restricted dietary requirements
Prepare sandwiches, salads and grab + go items for the cafe
Assist with receiving and putting away of deliveries and cleaning activities
Perform other duties as required or assigned to contribute to the team effort and achieve the
objectives of the Food Services Department
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by keeping the work area and the kitchen clean,
sanitized, and tidy, putting excess food away and clearing away waste, and by following
instructions regarding cleanliness and sanitation
Adherence to all School, HACCP, and municipal food handling policies, standards and guidelines in
the course of food preparation and handling of food and leftovers
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
Experience in a Food Services role in a professional/institutional kitchen
Knowledge of food services practices and procedures; Food Handlers Certificate & Smart Serve is
an asset
Good understanding of sanitation and cleanliness issues including knowledge of Workplace
Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Able to work in a fast paced environment
Strong interpersonal skills
Comfortable working with school aged children
Must have availability on weekends
Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Vulnerable Sector Check in
accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated
through the Human Resources Department of NBS.
