Title: Jr. Green Engineer – Modeling
Company: Polar Engineering
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Come build a greener British Columbia with us.
Polar Engineering is a young, fast-moving engineering consulting firm focused on delivering real, measurable carbon reductions. We design and implement advanced energy recovery, electrification, and low-carbon mechanical systems that help our clients eliminate fossil fuel use, reduce operating costs, and reach net zero.
In addition to our green energy work, Polar is also part of the engineering teams behind the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) and Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT)—projects shaping the future of science and technology. Google them 🙂
We are a lifestyle company that values great engineering and balance. Flexible hours, flexible workdays, and the freedom to enjoy the West Coast are part of how we operate. (Ian Welle’s favorite activity is kiteboarding.)
About the Role
Polar Engineering is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Net Zero and Grants Division.
In this role, you will work directly with Steffen Trangeled, Head of Polar’s Net Zero and Grants Division (also known internally as Polar’s rainmaker), supporting a rapidly growing portfolio of energy recovery, decarbonization, and net-zero implementation projects across British Columbia.
You will be part of Steffen’s team—affectionately known as “The Dream Team”—helping clients identify, design, and implement the most responsible and cost-effective pathways to net zero. This position blends engineering analysis, real-world implementation, and client-facing work, with a strong focus on measurable greenhouse gas reductions.
You will collaborate closely with the broader Polar Engineering team on technical reports, energy modeling, system design, and project delivery, while also supporting grant applications and helping communicate Polar’s impact through select outreach and social media efforts.
What You Will Do
- Perform energy audits and feasibility studies for existing buildings
- Visit project sites to gather field data and identify carbon reduction opportunities
- Develop detailed spreadsheet-based energy and emissions models
- Create 2D CAD drawings and system schematics
- Perform engineering calculations to evaluate system performance
- Work with manufacturers to understand equipment performance and integration
- Support the selection of low-carbon equipment and system configurations
- Coordinate with contractors to obtain pricing and clarify system requirements
- Prepare technical reports, grant documentation, and client presentations
- Support clients during design, construction, and implementation
