In this hands-on role, you will serve as a trusted partner to plant leadership, ensuring our people practices align with both organizational goals and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for the full employee lifecycle—from recruiting skilled talent to supporting employee development, engagement, and retention in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with plant leadership and department managers to develop and execute HR strategies that support operational goals and workforce planning.
  • Oversee the full-cycle recruiting process for hourly, skilled trades, and salaried positions, including job postings, interviews, offers, and onboarding.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues with fairness and consistency, conducting thorough investigations when necessary.
  • Ensure facility-wide compliance with applicable federal and provincial employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA).

  • Lead performance management processes, including goal-setting, performance reviews, and corrective action procedures.
  • Develop, update, and communicate HR policies and the employee handbook to ensure clarity and legal compliance.
  • Analyze HR metrics (turnover, absenteeism, headcount) and present data-driven recommendations to leadership.
  • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives, including recognition programs, culture-building activities, and stay interviews.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop any direct HR staff (coordinators, generalists) at the facility.
  • Coordinate and facilitate new-hire orientation and ongoing training programs, including safety and compliance training.
  • Support positive employee relations strategies or, where applicable, manage collective bargaining and labour relations activities in accordance with the Ontario Labour Relations Act.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of HR experience, with at least 1 year in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of Ontario and Canadian employment law and HR best practices, including the ESA, OHRC, OHSA, and AODA.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee relations issues and conducting workplace investigations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) or CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) designation through HRPA, or active pursuit thereof.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, including collective agreement administration and labour relations.
  • In-depth familiarity with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) requirements.
  • Experience with ADP, Workday, UKG, or a comparable HRIS/payroll system.
