We are seeking a dynamic HR Generalist specializing in manufacturing environments to join our team. This role, reporting to the VP HR, offers an exciting opportunity to drive human resources initiatives that support our manufacturing operations, foster employee engagement, and ensure compliance with employment laws. The HR Generalist will serve as a vital link between management and employees, promoting a positive workplace culture while managing core HR functions.

PROFILE

This position serves as the primary HR contact for the assigned Manufacturing client group with plants located in Nova Scotia (Cornwallis, Charlesville, and Yarmouth) and Pennfield, New Brunswick. The position is based in the plant in Cornwallis, NS, and will require regular trips to the Charlesville and Yarmouth. Occasional travel to the Pennfield plant may also be required. The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day HR operations of the manufacturing facilities. This role serves as the primary on-site HR resource for employees and supervisors. The HR Generalist is responsible for the execution and administration of core HR functions, including employee support, employee relations, benefits, policy implementation, and other HR functions in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and corporate policies. This role is highly hands-on and operational, supporting a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Serve as the HR point of contact for site leadership and employees
  • Provide coaching for organizational change within respective client groups
  • Proactively support and coach Managers and Supervisors on employee relations and employee development, enabling them to own their relationships with their employees.
  • Support employee relations activities, including attendance issues, policy clarification and basic disciplinary documentation.
  • Assist supervisors with performance documentation and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
  • Remain current on all applicable employment legislation.
  • Provide counsel, interpretation, and support to client groups regarding personnel policies, processes, programs and applicable labour laws.
  • Participate in planning and development of HR initiatives.
  • Work with Plant Managers on developing staffing plans.
  • Own the recruitment process for hourly and salaried roles within your client groups; coordinate with hiring managers and stakeholders to evaluate and select candidates.
  • Coordinate with the HR Administrator and manufacturing site staff regarding employee onboarding and offboarding, ensuring all related paperwork and enrollments/terminations are processed in a timely manner.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze turnover trends.
  • Participate in benefits and systems audits.
  • Support improvement of key people processes and systems at the manufacturing sites.
  • Educate employees on the company’s benefits and pension programs.
  • Support the disability management and return-to-work process in coordination with the Compensation & Benefits Manager and Global EHS Manager as appropriate.
  • Investigate and document employee relations issues on an as-needed basis.
  • Support Plant Managers, Managers and Supervisors with disciplinary discussions and advise them on procedures and practices.
  • Support the annual salary and wage review process for your client groups.
  • Support the annual talent review process for your client groups.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of Post-Secondary education in Human Resources or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years Human Resources experience, preferably in a warehouse, manufacturing or operational environment.
  • Flexible and willing to jump in on any project that supports the business and the team.
  • Able to work well under pressure and manage a high volume of work.
  • Able to work with strong personalities and manage difficult conversations with tact and professionalism.
  • Resourceful and able to solve problems independently and creatively.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of the organization.
  • Proven record of maintaining strict confidentiality handling sensitive issues effectively.
  • Strong proofreading, grammar, and editing skills; excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) with the ability to use formulas and tools to develop professional reports and presentations.
  • Ability to travel frequently
