Red Deer Polytechnic’s School of Health & Wellness is currently inviting applications for Sessional Health Care Aide Instructors!

RDPs Health Care Aide program prepares learners to be part of a health care team and provide a high level of front-line care to clients in need of assistance in a variety of different settings. Red Deer Polytechnic is licensed to deliver the 2019 Alberta Health Provincial Curriculum. This is a full-time credit program with nine courses which include blended learning (virtual real time classes) with a combination of virtual and in-person lab components, and three clinical placements.
The program prepares students to work as Health Care Aides in acute care, continuing care, hospitals, and home settings, assisting individuals with eating, dressing, washing, and mobility.

This program consists of a variety of learning approaches including online readings, assignments and lessons, in-person labs with a certified instructor, and in-person clinical placements. This program follows the Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide 2019 curriculum and successful graduates are eligible to write the provincial exam to be certified as Health Care Aides in Alberta.

Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Facilitating students in clinical, lab and theory settings.
  • Providing oversight when students perform skills or procedures.
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
  • Facilitate pre- and post-clinical conferences according to program guidelines.
  • Promoting and maintaining positive relationships with external partners.
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student progress and work.
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance.
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP
    policies and practices.

Required Qualifications
  • LPN Diploma
  • Current registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) or with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Recent clinical/practical experience
  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment
  • Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support Provider or Recertification Certificate (HSF – BLS Provider)
  • Driver’s License
  • Police Information Check
  • Current Immunization as per RDP requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Past teaching experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a nurse
  • Introduction to Teaching & Learning at RDP

Sessional: Red Deer Polytechnic offers a comprehensive benefits package including Alberta Blue Cross extended health and dental plans, and health spending account. There is a tuition waiver for
RDP credit courses for you as well as your immediate family members, as well as opportunities for professional development funding. The Local Authorities Pension Plan is also offered as an option to those who have served a waiting period. There is paid time off due to Institution closures between Christmas and NewYear general holidays. This position also offers an additional 8% of the regular salary in lieu of vacation.
