Firefighter
(Regular Full-Time – Two Positions)
The City of Terrace Fire Department is actively seeking two full-time firefighters with a strong sense of work ethic and a high level of commitment to public and personnel safety. The City of Terrace Fire Department takes pride in serving our community and ensuring the safety of the residents’.
Duties include but are not limited to: Providing emergency response of equipment and personnel; performing fire suppression; providing rescue/hazardous material response; and providing emergency medical care.
Minimum Qualifications:
Canadian Citizen; or Landed Immigrant with legal entitlement to work in Canada;
High School graduation or equivalent (certificate required);
Completion of NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2 (IFSAC OR PRO-BOARD accredited) standard;
A valid BC Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board EMR or PCP License;
Minimum two years of accumulated work experience after high school;
Career or Volunteer firefighting experience;
Valid B.C. Driver’s License, Class 5 with air brakes endorsement;
No summary conviction for a criminal offence related to the job of a fire fighter;
Suitable for the role of Firefighter;
Demonstrated commitment to a fit and healthy lifestyle;
Successful completion of a medical and hearing assessment;
Commitment to personal development;
Computer skills – basic knowledge and ability to operate a personal computer;
The ability to deal effectively and courteously with co-workers and the public;
All Shortlisted Candidates Will:
Be responsible for all travel costs incumbent the recruitment process;
Participate in testing conducted in the City of Terrace over consecutive days;
Provide a current 3-year Driver’s Abstract;
Complete a criminal records check including vulnerable sector check;
Provide proof of education and certifications;
Complete a psychological suitability and resiliency assessment;
Complete a physical fitness evaluation;
Complete a practical fire skills evaluation (follows NFPA 1001 standard);
Complete a written firefighter aptitude exam.
RATE OF PAY:As per collective Agreement
HOURS OF WORK:Shift work required
UNION:Terrace Firefighters’ Association, Local 2685, IAFF
BENEFITS:As per Collective Agreement
REPORTING TO:Fire Chief
