Calumet City Plumbing Company, Inc. (CCP) is a 90–100 employee Plumbing contractor serving the South suburbs of Chicago. From replacing flush valves in commercial buildings to operating 20‑ton excavators to expose and replace sewer and water mains, our work spans the full spectrum of Plumbing and Sewer and Water Repair.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a high‑initiative, mechanically inclined to oversee daily operations across our 7‑acre shop and yard. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, equipment‑heavy environment and takes pride in the top three priorities: anticipating needs, maintaining order, and ensuring the field has what it needs to succeed.
This person will manage supervise materials, equipment, inventory, vehicles, and yard readiness while supporting leadership with operational coordination. This position is central to keeping our crews moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Yard, Warehouse & Material Operations
· Maintain a clean, organized, hazard‑free warehouse and 7‑acre yard.
· Oversee receiving, inspecting, logging, and staging of all materials, including pipe, fittings, gravel, sand, cold patch, and job‑specific equipment.
· Conduct regular cycle counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
· Prepare and stage materials and equipment for daily field operations and scheduled projects.
· Load and unload trucks, trailers, and equipment safely and efficiently.
· Operate forklifts, wheel loaders, and other yard equipment with confidence and precision.
2. Equipment & Fleet Maintenance
· Perform routine preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting on small engines, portable rodders, pumps, generators, and heavy equipment.
· Identify when repairs exceed in‑house capability and coordinate transport to appropriate repair facilities.
· Ensure all company vehicles and equipment are properly licensed, inspected, and compliant with regulations.
· Maintain maintenance logs, service schedules, and equipment condition reports.
3. Operational Readiness & Initiative-taking Planning
· Anticipate operational needs—e.g., attaching plows before forecasted snow, arranging manpower for yard tasks, staging materials ahead of next‑day jobs.
· Coordinate with purchasing, field supervisors, and manpower scheduling to ensure crews have what they need before they need it.
· Support the President and leadership team with operational tasks, special projects, and day‑to‑day coordination.
4. Facility & Grounds Management
· Oversee general upkeep of buildings, shop areas, and yard grounds.
· Manage seasonal tasks such as snow removal, salting, landscaping, and site cleanliness.
· Ensure safe traffic flow and equipment storage across the property.
· Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
· Proven experience in warehouse, yard, equipment, or construction operations.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance.
· Experience operating forklifts/similar equipment.
· Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Proactive mindset starter who does not need to be told what to do.
· Effective communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
· Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
· Experience in Plumbing, construction, excavation, or heavy equipment environments.
· Familiarity with inventory management systems.
· Ability to coordinate with field teams and understand job-site material needs.
EDUCATION, AND JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma or Equivalent.
· Willingness to be “on-call” and work beyond 8 hours per shift as needed.
· Wear appropriate personal protective and safety equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work full shift in all weather conditions, including outdoor work.
- Flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
- Noise level in this environment can be loud.
- Exposure to warehouse/shop environment with moving equipment and materials.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
· Salary range – $70K to $110K (Commensurate with experience, mechanical/equipment competency.
