Blade Operator / Motor Grader Operator Job Description
Position Title: Blade Operator (Motor Grader Operator)
Reports To: Foreman / Superintendent
Position Summary
The Blade Operator is responsible for operating a motor grader to establish and maintain proper grade on roads, highways, site development projects, and other earthwork operations. The operator works closely with survey crews, foremen, and other equipment operators to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate motor grader safely and efficiently.
- Perform finish grading and rough grading operations.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, GPS machine control systems, and project plans.
- Establish proper elevations, slopes, crowns, and drainage.
- Work around underground utilities and existing structures.
- Coordinate with dozer, scraper, excavator, and haul truck operators.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required reports.
- Identify maintenance needs and communicate repairs promptly.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with other construction duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience operating motor graders in highway, heavy civil, or site development construction.
- Ability to read construction plans and grade stakes.
- Experience with GPS machine control systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Dozer Operator Job Description
Position Title: Dozer Operator
Reports To: Foreman / Superintendent
Position Summary
The Dozer Operator is responsible for operating bulldozers and related heavy equipment to move earth, prepare subgrades, maintain haul roads, spread materials, and support construction operations. The operator plays a critical role in maintaining production while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate bulldozers safely and efficiently.
- Perform rough grading and site preparation.
- Spread and level dirt, aggregate, and other construction materials.
- Build and maintain haul roads and work platforms.
- Assist in excavation, embankment, and earthmoving operations.
- Work from grade stakes, GPS systems, and project plans.
- Coordinate activities with excavator, scraper, blade, and truck operators.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and document findings.
- Perform routine maintenance and lubrication.
- Maintain production goals while ensuring quality workmanship.
- Follow company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience operating bulldozers in heavy highway, earthwork, or site development construction.
- Familiarity with GPS machine control systems preferred.
- Ability to understand grades, elevations, and drainage requirements.
- Strong safety awareness and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
