The Early Years Branch Child Care Operations is hiring one Early Learning and Child Care Consultant for an under nine-month term with the possibility of extension. The position is part-time (70% of full-time – 25.9 hours per week about 3 days per week) with the possibility of full-time hours. Based in Prince Albert, this consultant will work with a strong team playing an integral role in advancing the Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement in Saskatchewan. Reporting to the Program Manager for the North and North Central region, responsibilities include:
- Developing, licensing, and monitoring child care services;
- Supporting parents and caregivers;
- Assisting community groups and individuals to meet their child care needs;
- Actively working towards the recruitment and retention of new licensed family child care providers in the area;
- Ensuring information about early childhood care and education is available to the public; and,
- Enforcing The Child Care Act and The Child Care Regulations.
To be successful in this position, you will be a skilled verbal and written communicator who is able to:
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with a diverse group of people;
- Effectively mediate and negotiate solutions with various stakeholder groups in a diplomatic manner;
- Identify needs and issues and determine an appropriate course of action to address concerns; and,
- Independently plan and prioritize responsibilities in order to achieve work objectives.
Typically, the knowledge and experience required in this position would be acquired through:
- Experience as the Director of a child care centre;
- Formal education in early childhood care, child development, and programming;
- Knowledge of the administration of non-profit organizations and an understanding of board dynamics; and,
- An equivalent amount of related education and experience may be considered.
The ability to speak and write in French would be considered an asset.
A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license is required. Position involves provincial travel and overnight stays. Access to a personal vehicle is necessary for intra-city travel only.
