ABOUT SSCS:

Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is a leading social service provider

in BC’s Sea to Sky Corridor. We operate within a large geographic area – from Pemberton to

Britannia Beach. We offer 41 programs and services that support and enhance the lives of

residents through all ages and stages of life. Our programs include early childhood

development, childcare, counselling, family support, youth services, community living

services and affordable housing. We help create healthy, connected and diverse

communities where everyone can grow, develop and lead meaningful lives.

Contribution:

The Early Childhood Educator provides support and direct care to children under 6,

including children with support needs or infants/toddlers, to stimulate and develop their

intellectual, physical and emotional growth.

Qualifications:

1. Early Childhood Education Certificate.

2. Infant and Toddler certificate for 0-3 years programs.

3. Special Needs Certificate an asset.

4. Current BC Early Learning Framework training an asset.

5. One (1) year recent related work experience.

6. Valid approved first aid certificate.

7. Must be 19 years of age.

Job skills and abilities:

1. Demonstrated ability to work as a contributing member of a team.

2. Demonstrated ability to provide care and mature guidance to children.

3. Good written and verbal communication skills.

4. Familiarity with and commitment to the BC Early Learning Framework.

5. Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in ensuring the program meets all legal and licensing requirements and

adheres to agency and program policies and procedures.

2. Following the BC Early Learning Framework, and under the direction of the Senior

Educator, helps to develops and provides a program that reflects the intellectual,

physical, emotional, and social needs of the children and promotes positive self-

concept, problem solving skills and autonomy.

3. Documents children’s learning and experiences with guidance from the BC Early

Learning Framework through written anecdotes, collecting work samples and/or

photographs. Pedagogical narrations are based on the children’s interests as

informed by daily observations and are shared with families.

4. Assists in the implementation of individual service plans for children in care with

support needs in consultation with families, Supported Child Development workers

and other professionals.

5. Recommends, to the Senior Educator, referrals or additional services for children with

professionals such as behavioural therapists, occupational therapists and speech

language pathologists.

6. Provides behavioural intervention and support for children to assist in the

development of their physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills.

7. Reports on progress, behaviours of children and other outstanding issues. Maintains

required records and statistics.

8. Communicates with families about children’s growth and development and

pedagogical narrations. Requests input from and participation of parents in the

implementation of programs. Confers with families with regard to unusual or

problematic issues.

9. Attends to children’s physical needs such as toileting, eating and transferring.

10. Administers first aid and medication in accordance with established policy.

11. Ensures a clean, healthy and safe environment in which the children can interact.

Identifies and removes potential hazards.

12. Participates in staff meetings and fundraising activities.

13. Provides work direction to childcare assistants, support staff, volunteers and students

as required.

14. Performs other related duties as required.

Plan with a matching contribution by SSCS.
