The Niagara Regional Native Centre (NRNC) is an Indigenous-led, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the social, cultural, and economic well-being of Indigenous people in the Niagara Region. Through culturally grounded programming rooted in respect, tradition, and community, NRNC delivers services in health, education, justice, and family support.
The EarlyON Program provides culturally relevant services for Indigenous children (0–6 years old) and their families, supporting early childhood development, cultural connection, and family wellness.
Position Overview
NRNC is seeking a caring and community-focused EarlyON Worker to support the delivery of early years programming for Indigenous children and families.
This role works directly with children and caregivers by facilitating activities, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and supporting program delivery aligned with Early Childhood Education practices and Indigenous cultural values.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- 40 hours per week
- Includes 1-hour paid lunch
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day delivery of EarlyON programming
- Assist in planning and facilitating activities that promote children’s development (motor, social, emotional, and cognitive skills)
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for children and families
- Engage with children and caregivers through play-based and culturally relevant programming
- Provide families with information, support, and referrals as needed
- Maintain program materials, toys, and cultural resources
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation protocols
- Support proper documentation of attendance, activities, and client interactions
- Assist with maintaining accurate client files and data entry
- Model positive behaviours and cultural values
- Participate in team meetings, events, and community activities
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education (E.C.E.) Diploma or currently enrolled (preferred)
- Experience working with young children and families
- Experience working in an Indigenous community setting (asset)
Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Screening
- First Aid & CPR Certification
- Up-to-date immunization record
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
- Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous children and families
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to engage children through play and structured activities
