Governance Discovery & Framework
- Lead stakeholder interviews, workshops, and requirement-gathering sessions to understand business goals, pain points, critical data domains, ownership needs, and governance expectations.
- Partner with Steering Committee, CIO, and business/IT leadership to align on governance priorities, decision rights, approvals, and operating model.
- Define and establish the Data Governance Framework, including governance forums, roles, responsibilities, RACI, stewardship model, and decision-making processes.
- Develop governance roadmap with phased rollout plan, quick wins, and long-term maturity goals.
- Maintain RAID log, action tracker, and provide executive-ready weekly status updates.
Policy, Standards & Documentation
- Draft and finalize core governance policies, standards, and procedures, including:
- Data Classification and handling guidelines
- Access Control and RBAC / least privilege standards
- Non-production data masking expectations
- Data Quality policy, ownership, SLAs, and monitoring approach
- Metadata standards for business and technical metadata
- Create governance process playbooks for stewardship, approvals, issue resolution, and operational governance.
- Develop and maintain business glossary structure, definitions, ownership, and stewardship workflows.
- Produce discovery and documentation artifacts such as system inventory, dataset inventory, lineage diagrams, glossary, and roadmap documents.
Microsoft Purview Implementation
- Lead Purview implementation planning, including architecture, collections model, RBAC/security design, onboarding approach, and rollout strategy.
- Configure and operationalize Microsoft Purview as the enterprise governance platform.
- Register and connect prioritized data sources, including Azure data stores, databases, and relevant SaaS platforms where applicable.
- Define scan schedules, rulesets, credential strategy, and metadata ingestion approach.
- Configure and tune classifications using built-in and custom classification rules as needed.
- Align Purview setup with sensitivity labels, metadata enrichment, and catalog curation standards.
- Build a business-friendly Data Catalog with asset descriptions, ownership, tags, certification standards, and publishing workflows.
- Implement and validate business glossary integration with data assets.
- Enable and assess lineage across source systems, pipelines, and reporting layers where supported; document gaps and workaround approaches.
- Define Purview operating practices including stewardship workflow, publishing/approval model, and integration points for data quality or issue tracking.
Enablement & Handover
- Deliver administrator enablement, operational runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and handover documentation.
- Conduct training sessions for data stewards, data owners, and administrators.
- Prepare concise user guides and support adoption of governance processes and Purview capabilities across the organization.
