Custodial Caretaker Jobs in Regina at University of Regina
As a Custodial Caretaker, your primary role is to perform standard and routine cleaning services for our prestigious campus buildings. Working under the guidance of the Team Lead, Area Supervisor, and/or Manager, Custodial Services, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our facilities are clean, well-maintained, and ready for various events and activities. You’ll be responsible for a variety of routine caretaking and minor maintenance duties within your assigned area. This role demands a high level of physical dexterity and a willingness to tackle various tasks. From attending to caretaking needs to setting up buildings for events, your contributions will make a visible impact.
What You’ll Do:
- Cleaning, maintaining, and refinishing floors using cutting-edge equipment.
- Opening and securing building exteriors and interior rooms as per schedules.
- Cleaning and disinfecting washroom fixtures to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Dusting and washing all surfaces, from chalkboards to furniture and windows.
- Identifying and reporting maintenance issues promptly.
- Snow removal and application of de-icing agents.
- Waste collection and recycling responsibilities.

Position Requirements
- Grade 12 education;
- One year of previous related work experience; and
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license (Class 5) is required.
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:
- Knowledge of materials and supplies used in the cleaning industry.
- Knowledge and certified as required in the operation of manual and powered mobile custodial equipment.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use a computer for e-mail, training purposes and other applications.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Be in good physical condition and ability is required to lift containers of waste or recycling products and operate moderate to heavy equipment common in the cleaning industry.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, students, other University personnel, the general public, external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to foster a cooperative and respectful work environment.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making skills to ensure quality of one’s own work meets expected standards.
- Knowledge of WHMIS is an asset.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Ability to lift up and push/pull up to 50 lbs. Safe lifting training may be required.
- Must have skill in applying established safe work practices, following safe work procedures and be fully committed to OHS requirements.
- Knowledge the safe operation of manual and power – operated equipment. All personal protective equipment must be worn appropriately.
- Ability to identify and report unsafe acts, workplace hazards, and incidents that result (or could result) in injury, illness, or environmental damage.
- Ability to participate in and understand that the University has a diverse and respectful work environment.
Physical Demands
Physical activity is a primary part of the job. Work may be performed at heights and will include the use of ladders. Work involves exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, chemicals, hazardous materials, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises. Work environment may involve exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions.
The nature of the work may also require pushing, pulling and lifting heavy objects. Work may also involve working at both the University main and downtown campus, depending upon placement.
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 2 Salary Range $39,342.16 – $47,246.16 annually Status Permanent Work Hours
