Indigenous Culture & Language Facilitator
Job Description
Reports To: Executive Director & Program Supervisor
Status: Full-Time (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
Position Overview
The Indigenous Cultural & Language Facilitator is responsible for mobilizing Indigenous cultural teachings, language, and ways of knowing into daily classroom practice through side-by-side mentoring, modeling, and curriculum development. This role ensures that culture is lived through play, relationships, music, language, and daily routines-not just special events. The position also supports the implementation of the Early Learning Bundle by translating it into concrete, usable classroom practices.
Schedule
- 9:00 – 12:00: Classroom (Language & Cultural Practice)
- 12:00 – 1:00: Break
- 1:00 – 2:00: Planning / Prep/ Elder, Knowledge Keeper and Community Engagement
- 2:00 – 5:00: Classroom (Mentoring & Implementation)
- 5:00 – 5:30: Documentation / Flex Time
Minimum expectation: 5–6 hours daily in classrooms
Core Responsibilities
- Daily classroom presence (morning and afternoon)
- Model language, storytelling, music and learning experiences for children through Indigenous was of knowing and doing.
- Support educators in real-time practice
- Provide side-by-side mentoring
- Build educator confidence in cultural teachings and language and implementing our Early Learning Bundle
- Use declarative, non-judgmental communication
- Support the development of our cultural practice guide
- Include seasonal themes, language, activities, and teachings
- Ensure alignment with the Early Learning Bundle
- Coordinate cultural events and celebrations
- Ensure cultural integrity and team involvement
- Build relationships and seek teachings
- Integrate knowledge into programming
- Support family understanding of cultural programming
- Contribute to cultural communication and resources
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $32.00-$35.00 per hour
