Fernwood Cemetery is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Crematory Operator to support the safe, legal, and dignified operation of our on-site crematory. This role is hands-on and requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to respectful decedent care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform cremations in compliance with California law and Fernwood policies.
- Receive, identify, and prepare decedents for cremation or burial.
- Maintain accurate chain of custody, documentation, and required cremation records.
- Process cremated remains, including packaging, labeling, and proper handling.
- Clean and maintain crematory equipment and work areas.
- Assist with witness cremations and other services while provide compassionate family support.
- Respond to first-call transfers, including after-hours and on-call needs.
- Monitor inventory and communicate supply or operational needs to management.
Qualifications
- Current California Crematory Manager License preferred; ability to obtain and maintain licensure is required.
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- 2+ years of crematory or funeral service experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
- Professional, compassionate demeanor.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel) required

- Must comply with OSHA and California regulatory standards.

Pay: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour
