Rate of Pay:$24.97 to $28.62

Join our team at the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, West Kelowna Transition House as a Cook!Reporting to the Domestic Abuse Housing & Programs Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for creating nutritious and delicious meals for women and children while ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. Your culinary skills will play a vital role in providing comfort and support to those seeking sanctuary from domestic abuse.

Position Duties:As a Cook at our West Kelowna Transition House, you will:

Develop and execute a diverse, nutritious menu in adherence to Canada’s Food Guide, catering to various dietary requirements and cultural preferences.

Collaborate with support workers to address specific dietary needs of our women and children.

Prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks following safety and health standards.

Maintain cleanliness and functionality of kitchen facilities and equipment.

Manage inventory and procurement of food supplies within budgetary constraints.

Attend training programs and participate in community and staff meetings.

Position Requirements:

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

Grade 10 education or equivalent, with culinary training or Professional Cook apprenticeship.

Minimum one year of relevant experience.

Successful completion of a Criminal record check.

Foodsafe Level 1 Certificate and Standard First Aid CPR-C & AED.

Ability to work under pressure and lift up to 50 pounds.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite is advantageous.

Indigenous Awareness and Diversity training preferred.

A feminist-centered approach with respect for boundaries and confidentiality.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in crisis situations.
