Nikel Precision is a product centric machining company that regularly works with exotic aerospace and medical related alloys and materials. Using modern state of the art CNC machine tools, we serve diverse industries including Aerospace, Defense, Semiconductor, and Medical.

We are seeking experienced, full-time CNC Machinists and Machine Operators for our 1st and 2nd shift operations with prior work experience and/or formal training on multi-axis machines.

Summary:

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for operating assigned computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools and machining centers to produce precision machined parts to specification. This position supports second-shift production and may include work in CNC milling, Mazak CNC equipment, 5-axis CNC machining centers, and/or related CNC machining areas based on department assignment, experience, training, and business need.

Candidates are not required to have experience with all listed equipment. Preferred experience includes CNC milling, Mazak CNC equipment, and/or 5-axis CNC machining.

Second shift receives a 20% shift differential in addition to the employee’s base hourly rate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews traveler and/or process sheet instructions, blueprints, tool sheets, and inspection procedures to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations.
  • Reviews shift handoff information, job status, machine status, tooling concerns, inspection notes, and production priorities before beginning assigned work.
  • Loads parts, blanks, or work pieces into fixtures, vises, pallets, or other workholding devices for production machining.
  • Operates assigned CNC machining equipment based on department assignment, training, and experience.
  • Assists with setup of assigned CNC machine centers for first-piece and production machining.
  • Verifies tools, tooling kits, fixtures, and related setup materials to ensure correct tooling, sequence of tool use, and tool offsets.
  • Monitors machining operations to detect malfunctions, tool wear, machine alarms, part movement, or out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Makes basic machine adjustments within established process requirements or notifies appropriate personnel when escalation is required.
  • Performs in-process inspections and verifies finished work pieces for conformance to specifications using visual checks and mechanical measuring equipment, tools, or gages.
  • Identifies, segregates, tags, and notifies supervisory personnel of defective material, suspect material, or non-conforming parts.
  • Documents production status, inspection results, machine concerns, tooling issues, non-conforming material, and other relevant information to support communication between shifts.
  • Confers with Supervisor, Lead Machinist, Quality personnel, and/or Process Technicians to resolve machining, setup, tooling, or quality concerns.
  • Performs preventive maintenance checks before, during, and after operations on assigned machine centers.
  • Deburrs, benches, cleans, and polishes machined parts to specifications using appropriate hand tools, rotary tools, or vibrating tools.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Works with increased independence during second-shift operations while following established procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and escalation expectations.
  • Conforms to and operates within the framework of all applicable SOPs, quality, safety, and ISO procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous CNC machine operation experience or equivalent machining-related training.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, process instructions, travelers, tool sheets, and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to use basic measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, or other mechanical inspection tools.
  • Basic shop math skills, including the ability to work with decimals, fractions, and standard units of measure.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, safety rules, quality procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to identify quality concerns, machine issues, tooling concerns, or non-conforming parts and escalate as required.
  • Ability to work second shift and perform assigned work with appropriate independence.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • CNC milling experience.
  • Mazak CNC equipment experience.
  • 5-axis CNC machining experience.
  • Experience working in a precision manufacturing, aerospace, medical, or ISO-regulated environment.
  • Experience performing in-process inspection of machined parts.
  • Experience with machine setup, tool offsets, fixture loading, or first-piece inspection.

Shift and Compensation

Second shift receives a 20% shift differential in addition to the employee’s base hourly rate.

This work requires physical exertion consisting of long periods (maximum of 12 hours) of standing and recurring bending, stooping, stretching and extended reaching or reaching overhead is required. Routine lifting and pushing or pulling of moderately heavy (up to 50lbs) equipment is also required. Extensive use and dexterity is required in the hands and fingers to manipulate machine controls and to tighten, grasp, turn, twist, pull, push and pinch knobs, screws and other small tools, fixture or assembly details.

This work involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, machine tools, machine oils, lubricates and coolants (synthetic and petroleum based). Employees are required to wear hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves and full-leather shoes or boots. Other special safety precautions and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and/or tools may be required to perform work on, or around, selected machine tools and mechanical devices.
