Child and Youth Care Worker Jobs in Barrie at SIMCOE MUSKOKA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of students in collaboration with members of the school team. Under the direction of the Senior Psychologist, the CYCW will provide referral-based, short-term support to students who are experiencing significant challenges in their ability to engage in learning and other school activities as a result of behavioural and/or mental health crises. The CYCW will offer support to individual students to assist with the development of skills and strategies that support engagement in their learning environment and promote wellbeing. The CYCW may also support groups of students as part of school-based intervention activities, in collaboration with members of the school team. Support may include observations and recording of information, coaching, and modeling for school staff in order to support student mental health and behavioural stabilization. The CYCW may also be required to assist in centrally delivered training (e.g., Behaviour Management Systems Training).
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Child and Youth Care Diploma or Degree
- Minimum 5 years experience in a Child and Youth Care/Worker role
- Experience with trauma-informed practices
- Experience providing mental health and behavioural supports to children and youth in a multidisciplinary setting
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices
- Experience developing and/or delivering staff training
- Experience working with individuals with mental health needs
- Certification in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training or related crisis intervention training (e.g., NVCPI; UMAB) is considered an asset
- Competent in the use of computers and computer programs
The following would be considered an asset:
- Experience working within a school system
- Threat Assessment and Intervention Training
- Certification in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training or related crisis intervention training (e.g., NVCPI; UMAB)
