Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Provides building equipment and maintenance support to the Long Term Care Home, as part of a team providing resident-focused service.
Perform maintenance and repairs to equipment deployed at all the Region’s long-term care homes, including but not limited to, patient lifts, bathing systems, hospital beds, flusher disinfectors, laundry equipment/systems and food services equipment/systems. Conduct preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment to prevent breakdowns and maintain peak performance. Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, including service reports, parts used, and time spent on each task. Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, consumables, and tools required for equipment maintenance.
Perform maintenance on equipment as a factory-trained technician. Maintain HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, laundry equipment/systems and food services equipment/systems and other equipment as directed. Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the preventive maintenance system under the direction of the Building Services Management and/or Administrator (or designate).
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Diploma in Building Environmental Systems (BES) Operator Class I & II or equivalent educational program
- Equivalent combination of education and current, related experience may be considered
- Current certification as a Gas 2 Technician
- Recognized training, certification, or education in one of the electrical, mechanical, appliance repair, HVAC and plumbing trades is required
- Additional training/certification in any of the following areas would be assets: Appliance Repair, Lock Out/Tag Out, mechanical, and electrical training related to equipment repairs in order to complete factory technician training for equipment
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Completion of at least of 3 years current related experience in system and equipment maintenance, inspection and repair, preferably in a Long Term Care, geriatric, hospital, congregate care, institutional or other similar setting
- Specific, related experience in Appliance Repair, HVAC maintenance and commercial kitchen and laundry equipment maintenance would be assets
- Knowledgeable of relevant equipment and systems
- Good understanding and knowledge of emergency procedures
- Working knowledge of Ministry of Long Term Care Legislation and Regulations, Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), Electrical Safety Authority, Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Technical Standards Safety Authority, Environmental Protection Act as they pertain to Maintenance
- Knowledge of client/participant safety issues and demonstrated capacity to apply client/participant safety practices
SKILLS
- Must be able to communicate effectively with service contractors, trades people, staff, residents and families
- Proficient with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and related software and hardware
- Good problem solving, inspection and documentation skills
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- In accordance with the Corporate Policy and applicable Legislation/Regulation(s), the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Record Check and submit a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as complete any subsequent declaration or check as required by legislation/Act, regulation, and/or policy
- Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class G driver’s license for the class of the vehicle operated – Condition of Employment
- Good attendance record
