Standard Electric Company, a Wholesale Plumbing-Heating-Mechanical Distributor in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a full-time individual for a Counter Associate in a fast-paced and customer service-oriented environment. This position involves advising customers on our products, taking orders from incoming calls, and servicing local walk-ins to grow sales and profitability. Two or more years’ experience is necessary in plumbing and heating industry. Job Description:
Serve as a key customer service contact on a face-to-face basis at the counter as well as handling incoming phone calls and emails. Generate sales while providing quick, accurate, and courteous service to customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sell and supply merchandise to customers utilizing product and applications knowledge to select material that best meets customer needs. When applicable or as assigned, service orders that have been called in for customer pickup.
- Proactively handle customer issues/challenges for resolution.
- Assist with maintaining customer records, files, and reports of business transactions.
- Participate in continuous training sessions to develop and increase industry knowledge.
- Consistent attendance at the workplace is required and considered an essential function of the job.
- Perform other related duties as dictated by business necessity or assigned by management including general warehouse work.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years prior experience in plumbing and heating industry preferred.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with customers at retail level.
- Ability to evaluate products in terms of customer needs.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all branch personnel.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and handle many issues without supervisory support.
