Duties

Visitor service, revenue collection and daily cleaning/maintenance at campgrounds and the front entrance. This includes but is not limited to greeting visitors and providing orientation; confirming reservations; selling of campsites; selling passes and merchandise, daily cleaning of campground washroom and other facilities, campsite cleaning/maintenance, grounds cleaning and litter picking and emptying of trash and recycling receptacles.

From your first step into the park you’ll be amazed by adversity of habitats, from the sheltered canopy of the southern Carolinian forest to the expansive sea of cattails in the marsh. Listen for the sweet songs of migratory birds that briefly stop inspiring on their way to northern breeding grounds. Glide through the marshlands in a canoe, paddling silently past turtles basking in the sun or wander barefoot on a sandy beach, enjoying the sun and warm water. In autumn, the migration returns with songbirds darting quickly in and out of vegetation, while dragonflies and Monarch butterflies drift by. In winter, Point Pelee offers quiet beauty and solitude as you enjoy hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.

Intent of the process

We are currently seeking to fill two Visitor Services Attendant II positions at Point Pelee National Park. We are looking for a passionate and visitor focused team member who will work with others to provide exceptional service to visitors at the site. This process will be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic profiles in same or other parts of the country.

Education :
A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note – Acceptable combination of education, training and experience:

Two years of secondary school or PSC approved alternatives; AND
Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) course relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organizations or employers AND
A minimum of 1 year providing customer service and using point of sale system.

Degree equivalency

Experience :

Experience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity;
Experience in handling cash and operating point of sale equipment.

CPR Certification
Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform when required;

Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others;
Occasionally be exposed to noxious odours from car fumes, to dust, cleaning products and wet conditions.
Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possess a valid class “G” driver’s license;
Work outdoors in varying temperatures and inclement weather;
Work and/or travel in varied terrains and by various means of transportation;
