The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is the oldest and largest Maritime Museum in Canada. The Museum is a valuable historical, cultural and educational institution. It is the largest site in Nova Scotia that collects and interprets various elements of Nova Scotia’s marine history.

Visitors are introduced to the age of steamships, local small craft, the Royal Canadian and Merchant Navies, World War II convoys and The Battle of the Atlantic, the Halifax Explosion of 1917, and Nova Scotia’s role in the aftermath of the Titanic disaster.

About Our Opportunity

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is seeking an individual to be part of our Visitor Experience team (VET) who exemplifies service excellence and demonstrates strong communication skills while welcoming and assisting visitors from diverse backgrounds, providing accurate and timely information to them in a dynamic work environment.

In this position, you will act as the first point of contact with the public, providing admissions and reception services as they are welcomed to the museum. You may also be called upon to assist in other duties related to interpretive programming as required for museum operations.

This position reports to the Curator of Visitor Experience at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

Primary Accountabilities

Assist with the coordination of facility rentals, promotional activities and special events and other duties as required.
Maintain and operate Point of Sale (POS) systems for admissions, pass sales, and retail purchases.
Ensure special offers, discounts and cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures.
Orient visitors with the site and inform them of programming, events, and activities available.

Offer excellent customer service in a busy, fast-paced environment

Qualifications and Experience

As the ideal candidate, you possess at least grade 11 plus 3 years of related experience in a retail or customer service environment. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

You possess a knowledge and strong interest in the cultural and natural history of Nova Scotia and its Museums. You are a self-motivated individual who works well independently and participants fully in a team environment. You value the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of work.
