Salary: $1,265.80 – $1,554.23 Per week

Location and Travel

Simcoe (Norfolk County) position will work primarily out of the Simcoe office but requires regular travel to the Cayuga satellite office (approximately twice per week) as well as occasional travel to the Brantford main office (approximately 1-2 times per month).

About the job

As a team member with the Victim/Witness Assistance Program (VWAP) office, you can expect the typical day to include responsibilities such as:

  • Informing clients about their case, victims’ rights, and what they need to know about and can expect during the criminal court process
  • Educating and helping victims and witnesses understand their role in the criminal justice system
  • Providing emotional support and crisis intervention to vulnerable clients through a trauma-informed and victim-centered lens, including assessing risks and needs
  • Maintaining relationships with criminal justice partners and community agencies to advocate on behalf of your clients and refer clients for services such as counselling and safety planning
  • Documenting throughout the case management process to create timely and accurate case notes
  • Participating in projects to review and improve services, committees to collaborate and build relationships, and public education activities to promote the program

Qualifications

  • Mandatory requirements: Valid class ‘G’ driver’s license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario (only required for Simcoe position)
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to support marginalized and vulnerable clients who are victims or witnesses of crimes, including intimate partner violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and homicide
  • Technical Knowledge: Crisis response and intervention skills to help clients in need
  • Technical Knowledge: Able to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policies about victims of crime and court proceedings
