Responsibilities
Perform a wide variety of clerical duties, including maintaining patient charts.
Transcribe doctor’s orders.
Facilitate admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
Act as a receptionist, answer the telephone, and take accurate messages.
Maintain statistical information for the unit.
Call in staff per applicable collective agreements and assist in coordinating staffing.
Perform computer data entry, write reports, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Medical Office Administration Diploma or equivalent education and experience in a hospital clerical or medical office setting.
Previous experience transcribing doctor’s orders.
Knowledge of medical terminology and keyboarding skills of at least 35 wpm (tested).
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Experience with CUPE and ONA scheduling language and associated premium entitlements.
Experience with Meditech Personnel/Payroll, Admissions Modules, Order Entry, and Community Wide Scheduling.
Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and handle multiple tasks.
Organizational and prioritization skills; effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical capability to perform the duties, including reaching, bending, and pulling.

Conditions of Employment
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and CUPE Local 6364.
Successful external applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six months.
