Job Description
Summary:
To be considered for the position, applicants must meet the following conditions:
Organizational Status:
The TA will be working under the direct supervision of the Rads 301 teaching team within the Department of Radiology, collaborating with faculty, instructors and staff. The role will report directly to Office Manager.
Consequences or Error/Judgement
This position represents the University of British Columbia, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Department of Radiology in interactions with students, faculty, and staff. As such, the Teaching Assistant is expected to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion at all times. Errors in judgment—such as inappropriate communication with students, mishandling of confidential information, or failure to follow course policies—can negatively impact the learning environment, compromise academic integrity, and damage the reputation of the program and institution.
The TA is responsible for managing assigned duties (e.g., grading, student support, tutorials) in a timely and accurate manner. Inconsistent or negligent performance may result in student dissatisfaction, academic appeals, or disruption to course delivery.
Supervision Received:
The Teaching Assistant will work under the general direction of the Course Coordinator and Instructors. While expected to carry out responsibilities independently, the TA will receive regular guidance and feedback from the instructor(s) regarding course content, grading, and student engagement.
Supervision Given:
This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities. However, the TA may provide informal guidance or support to students during tutorials, office hours, and via online communication platforms. In some cases, the TA may assist in coordinating peer discussion groups or helping student groups stay on task.
