What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:

plan, supervise and coordinate technical traffic engineering staff and consultant activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality traffic engineering services related to the planning, design, construction, corridor control, maintenance and operation of provincial highways of various complexities, for an area within the region
plan, coordinate and supervise the training and development of technical traffic engineering staff for an area within the region
provide expert technical consultation and advisory services to internal and external clients on traffic engineering

How do I qualify?
Mandatory:
You must have a valid class ‘G’ driver’s licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver’s licence upon being hired.

Technical Skills:
You have knowledge of, and demonstrated experience in, traffic engineering, including traffic standards and practices related to signing, pavement markings, delineation, capacity analysis, intersection design and operations, traffic signals, detouring, staging, illumination, traffic impact evaluation, multi-model and intelligent transportation systems, traffic simulation modelling, traffic data collection, traffic/engineering software, etc.
You have knowledge and demonstrated application of government policies, procedures, standards and relevant Acts and Regulations related to traffic engineering (i.e. Ontario Traffic Manuals, Highway Traffic Act).
You have knowledge of highway planning, design, construction and maintenance activities to resolve traffic safety and operational issues.

Project Management and Supervisory Skills:
You have knowledge of project management methodologies, techniques, and standards to manage, coordinate, and participate in concurrent technical projects.
You have the experience, technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to effectively supervise and coordinate a section of traffic engineering staff and consultant activities.

Analytical, Research and Problem-Solving Skills:
You are able to investigate traffic engineering issues, assess risks, evaluate options for mitigation, and make recommendations on complex traffic engineering issues.

Communication, Advisory and Interpersonal Skills:
You can develop and maintain effective working relationships.
You are able to present compelling recommendations, and prepare ministerial responses and technical reports, including recommendations, presentations, correspondence and briefing notes.
