This position is on a 40-hour work week and involves night shift with Thursday/Friday as off-days and the work location is primarily located at Greenwood Yard (various). For all positions work reporting locations will vary as dictated by work assignments.

Successful candidate will be classified as a Track Maintainer Class 2 Trainee for a period of 12 months during which time the applicable training will be provided; upon successful completion of the training, employee will be classified as a Track Maintainer Class 2 (Wage Grade 7).

What You Will Do

This is a routine heavy motorized equipment and vehicle operation job involving the safe efficient operation of vehicles and associated equipment used in the maintenance and construction of subway track. This involves the operation of vans, trucks, pick-ups, pick-ups with high rail equipment, front end loaders, speed swing loaders, mini-excavators, skid steer loaders, snow pushers, salting equipment, etc. The work involves the operation of vehicles for loading and transporting tools, supplies, materials, parts, equipment and personnel to and from work sites. Also, involves performing tangent and special track work installation, placing of concrete, or other paving materials, installation of drains, and performing a variety of work on electrical and manual switch mechanisms and performing Track Maintainer duties or assisting with a wide variety of manual tasks when not operating a vehicle.
The work may be performed at a subway location, a TTC yard and/or track maintenance and construction sites. The work is performed under the direction of Track & Structure department supervisory staff or designated Person-in-Charge (P.I.C).

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

Must complete Grade 10 education or its recognized equivalent as determined by the assessment of education credentials by the TTC Operations Training Centre;
Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by the ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations;
Must be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training program including programs for the operation of various types of heavy motorized equipment and vehicles
Must be ready and willing to be fitted and wear a respirator;
Must have a valid class “G” province of Ontario driver’s licence, or better, and pass the written and practical tests required for a class “DZ” driver’s licence;
