Your Opportunity:
Under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides support services as part of an interdisciplinary inpatient acute care team. The SLPA assists with carrying out treatment programs and therapeutic activities for adult patients experiencing communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing difficulties related to acute medical, surgical, or neurological conditions.
This casual position supports service delivery as operationally required and offers flexibility while contributing to high quality, patient and family centered care. Description As a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, you will:
Assist Speech Language Pathologists in the implementation of treatment plans as directed Carry out assigned therapy activities with patients on an individual or group basis Document on the electronic medical record. Assist with screening procedures and outcome data collection within established protocols Support safe feeding and swallowing strategies as outlined by the supervising SLP (within scope) Prepare, clean, and maintain therapy materials, equipment, and resources Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration and communication Provide education and support to patients, families, and caregivers as directed Adhere to AHS policies, professional standards, infection prevention and control practices, and workplace safety requirements
Description:
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision.
This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Completion of a recognized Speech Language Pathology Assistant diploma program
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in an inpatient acute care or hospital setting Experience working with adult populations, including stroke, neurological, or medically complex patients Familiarity with dysphagia management supports under SLP direction
