Full job description
The Accounting and Payroll Administrator reports to Director of Finance, to manage the organization’s financial and accounting processes in alignment with The Open Doors’ philosophy, objectives, and policies. Responsibilities include recording day-to-day accounting entries, General Ledger management, financial reporting, processing payroll and ensuring compliance with professional accounting standards. The role also contributes to an ethical, safe, and inclusive environment through adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
· Performs Accounting daily transactions including:
o Track and process payables and receivables
o Coordinate receipt of donations and fees, and prepares and submit deposits
o Record journal entries and maintain accurate General Ledger accounts
o Reconcile monthly bank statements
o Prepare financial statements and reports
· Complete processing of bi-weekly Payroll:
o Remit contributions to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and complete appropriate filings of payroll records including T4 and T4A
o Maintain records on staff time tracking including vacation, statutory time-off
· Other tasks and responsibilities:
o Review and implement financial policies
o Champion policy initiatives that support organizational values
o Prepare for, and assist with, scheduled audits
o Assist with capital projects
o Complete required government forms such as GST rebate claims, annual charitable return and annual Society return
o Maintain inventory of equipment and program supplies
o Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· Post Secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field or an acceptable combination of training and experience
· Proven work experience as an Accounting Assistant, Accountant or in a similar role
· Experience working in the non-profit sector or a registered charitable organization
· Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, policies, and regulations
· Experience using accounting software (QuickBooks) including MS Office and Google suite
· Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
· Excellent analytical and numerical skills
· Strong ethics and ability to manage confidential data
· Strong organization skills and ability to quickly shift priorities
· Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
· Clear criminal record and Child Intervention Check
Working Conditions
On-site hours in Camrose (30 hours/week)
Some evening and weekend work may be required (e.g. assisting with special events)
