Temporary Side Loader Operator

What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Manager of Waste Services, and under the direction of the Working Foreperson (Waste Services), the Side Loader Operator is responsible for:

collecting and disposing of household garbage, organics or yard waste materials for both the dual-stream and single stream collection on assigned routes;

ensuring thorough completion of assigned routes and assisting with the completion of other routes as required to successfully achieve service levels objectives;

ensuring the vehicle is regularly serviced and maintained through daily pre and post trip inspections;

emptying road side litter containers and collecting road side debris;

performing special collection services of large bulky items;

adhering to all applicable departmental directives and waste management by-laws; and,

performing other duties as required and assigned.

You are knowledgeable about and work in compliance with all workplace safety regulations, standards, and practices. You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful candidate, you must possess

a secondary school graduation diploma;

successful candidates are required to hold and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “DZ” Driver’s License and qualify for the Town’s Safe Driver Program criteria;

a minimum of six (6) months directly related experience in residential curbside solid waste collection;

a minimum of one (1) year recent and demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W., including tandem axle trucks;

successful completion of Defensive Driving training;

a demonstrated ability to adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act

a demonstrated ability to operate various tools and equipment in a safe manner; and

physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. in varying weather conditions.

Salary: $31.47 – $39.35 per hour (Band E)

Union Affiliation: CUPE Full-Time

Hours: Current shift schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., forty (40) hours per week.

Hours of work may be subject to change, shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
