Context

Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy (Oahas) is an Indigenous‑led organization committed to promoting and supporting healthy, thriving Indigenous communities through providing culturally grounded education and access to harm reduction to reduce the transmission of HIV and other STBBIs in our communities. Oahas operates based on the principles of Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA), Meaningful Engagement of People living with HIV/AIDS (MEPA), “nothing about us without us”, Indigenous harm reduction, and respect for our cultural knowledge and teachings.

Summary

Working as part of a provincial team this position will be leading the Training & Resource Development Team, which was first established in April 2024. The Team Supervisor will ensure that training and resource design and development activities and services are implemented in a way that aligns with the organization’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and annual operational plan goals. With guidance from the Oahas Senior Management Team, the Team Supervisor is expected to manage the Training and Resource Development team matters.

We anticipate an approximate time breakdown as follows:

  • 30% of the time is spent on staff supervision, providing guidance, coaching, inspiring, educating
  • 20% of the time is spent on delivering education and training activities, internally and externally
  • 20% of the time is spent managing overall Training and Resource Design and Development strategy design and implementation
  • 15% of the time on administration including planning, finances, timesheets, internal meetings, and reporting
  • 15% of the time engaging community through social media, in‑person events, and partnership meetings

Guided by a strengths‑based multidisciplinary approach, rooted in the Oahas’ values, this position will work closely with Indigenous communities to be responsive to their needs and interests, as it relates to developing resources and tools primarily for Indigenous harm reduction, and HIV & HCV prevention, education, access to testing and treatment, linkage to care, and educational information related to other STIs.

This position is expected to actively engage with community members, volunteers, staff, Elders and Knowledge Carriers, and partnering agencies to strengthen the health and well‑being of Indigenous people who use drugs, or are living with, or at risk of acquiring HIV and HCV. This role has financial and budgeting responsibilities. Regular travel is required, along with some evening and weekend work.

This position is located in Sudbury, Ontario, and reports directly to the Executive Director, with the following areas of key responsibilities:
People Leadership & Supervision, Training & Resource Planning, Development, and Design, Education Service Delivery, Community Engagement & Social Media Management, Research & Program Evaluation, Finance & Administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Oahas management, staff, and community (e.g., Community Advisory Committee or other community groups) on developing strategies for knowledge mobilization projects and activities that strengthen Oahas’ programs and services.
  • Collaborate with teams and community to lead the design and development of visual information including resources, campaigns, presentations, and training materials, and other graphic assets.
