Team Member/Cook Jobs in Radium Hot Springs at Cross River Education and Retreat Centre

Cross River Education and Retreat Center has an opening for a cook for the 2024 summer season – July 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024.

We are an Indigenous-owned and operated full service, off-grid and remote guest lodge located in the East Kootenays, BC, in the beautiful and majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains. We are accessible by road, approximately 1/2 hour from Radium Hot Springs, 1 hour from Banff, and 3 hours from Calgary.

Responsibilities:

Menu planning, shopping lists, preparation, and presentation of all meals for the lodge guests
Create high quality home-cooked meals and desserts, while at the same time being cost-conscious
Prepare dishes for guests with food allergies or intolerances and handle all dietary concerns with appropriate care and concern, as required
Ensure proper storage and labelling of all items in kitchen, fridges, freezers, and rotate to use them up and reduce waste
Stock and organize your work area, fridges, freezers, and pantry
Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of dishes, equipment, appliances, and all work areas in the kitchen

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Previous experience as a cook. Experience cooking in a backcountry setting is an asset
Food Safe training is an asset
Comfortable working in an open kitchen where positive interactions with guests is required
Organized and conscientious in your food preparation, ensuring top-notch quality in every dish
Pleasant and outgoing, tidy, efficient, and able to work with minimum supervision
Physically able to keep up with the long days and active pace of a busy lodge where guests are continually coming and going

Regarding days off, they won’t be regularly scheduled because they will revolve around when we have guests – are you flexible with your days off?
Regarding hours, there are days when we have no guests at the lodge. Are you willing to do other work besides cooking when there are no guests?
Do you have experience working in a remote lodge planning and preparing all the meals each day?
