Title of Course

GEOG 2P66 – Introduction to Planning and Community Development

Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

· Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate – $ per hour.

· Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate – $ per hour.

· In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant’s duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

a) Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Human Geography or equivalent*. If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 13 or more credits) in Human Geography or equivalent
* will be considered.
b) Completion of 4 full credits in Human Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Human Geography courses completed is required (or equivalent*).
c) Completion of GEOG 3P45 and/or GEOG 3P60 and/or GEOG 3P66 with a final grade of 75% or higher.
d) Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context.
e) Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
f) Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines.

* Equivalency will be determined by the course instructor. Applicant must make a case in their cover letter that their qualifications are equivalent to those required above.
